Kansas & Nebraska Whitetail and Mule Deer Hunting
Self-Guided Archery Hunts @ Wolf River Outfitters, LLC.
For the deer hunter who wants a challenge that can produce big
rewards.
The Deer herd.
The biggest question when planning a trophy
whitetail hunt is: What kind of deer are there?
There must be a quality deer herd, or there won't be any trophy bucks. Kansas has the
formula for success. To begin with, Kansas has a good strain of whitetail. Add to that a
good food supply of corn, soybeans, wheat and alfalfa. Then throw in all the wild forage
that is available. Next add a good measure of habitat. We have great cover and protection
for the deer. Add to that low hunting pressure (0.5 hunters per square mile). That is the
Kansas formula for trophy deer.
We at Wolf River Outfitters have many acres of quality private land available to our
hunters. We make every effort to increase the number of trophy bucks. We plant food plots
where needed, and keep mineral pits fresh. We also limit the number of hunters that we
take. In addition, we harvest a number of does each year to manage the buck-to-doe ratio.
The Deer Hunting Areas.
Nebraska Deer Hunting Land
We have prime land. Kansas and Nebraska have
very little public hunting ground. It can be hard for a non-resident to gain access
to the "good" ground. We have taken care of that for you. We have sought out and
acquired some of the very best hunting ground in our part of the state. We have several
large tracts of land that allow us to have an impact on the management of the deer. If you
have always dreamed of having a place to yourself, you have had your dream come true. Each
location that we hunt, is situated so that each hunter has an exclusive area to hunt. We
rotate hunters to each of these spots so everyone has an equal chance.
Our ground consists of river bottoms and rolling
farm land. We have crops such as corn, soybeans, wheat and alfalfa.
We have hardwood timbers with several types of acorns and other natural foods that
the deer love. Most of the ground that we hunt is hilly, with steep, deep ditches.
We are located in the north-east corner of
Kansas. Much of our hunting ground is bordered by the Missouri River. We also have some
excellent ground in Nebraska. The Nebraska ground and the Kansas ground look identical. As
a matter of fact, they are less than twenty miles apart. Our Nebraska Archery Hunting trips are on the
Platte River in Central Nebraska which host some very good hunting ground.
The good news about the Nebraska
hunts is that the permits are available over the counter. Our Nebraska ground is just like
our Kansas ground. And besides, the deer don't know where the state line is!!!
The way we hunt.
We have tree stands located in all the right
spots. We monitor the deer activity and history in determining where to place the stands.
We try to put them in the best spots, however, if you find a spot that looks hot right
now, the stands can be moved.
Depending on the time of the season, we use
different techniques. Scents, decoys, calling, rattling or any other technique that you
choose. This is a self-guided hunt, but you are not all on your own. We have maps and
markers to help you find your way in and back out. We also love to talk and give as much
advice as is wanted or needed.
